Gleaning for gold: Some of the women from this village travel a long distance to get a small chunk of dirt/rock from a gold mine. Then they bring it back and use this grande mortar and pestle to break apart the chunk hoping to find a few small flakes of gold. This village is bigger and better off than the our team was in last year, but there are still many here just barely scraping by. Some have only bread and water to eat, if anything some days. |
