Restoration Project Begins at Country Club Christian Church
Country Club Christian Church, at 6101 Ward Parkway in Kansas City, Mo., has begun preliminary work on a multimillion dollar restoration project. Crews in a 40-ton, 140-foot crane have recently removed portions of the stone sculptures along the building’s roofline and large sections of the church’s iconic tower to prepare for replacement in spring 2012.
The $3.1 million project also includes restoration of the church’s stained-glass window coverings. The new coverings will better protect the ornate windows, will allow more light into the church’s sanctuary and the windows will also be seen more clearly from the building’s exterior.
Country Club Christian Church has raised more than $2 million of the projects’ estimated $3.1 million total through a three-year capital campaign which kicked off in May 2011.
The church was established in 1920, and the construction on its initial sanctuary building began in 1923 and was completed in 1925. Other sections of the building were added in various phases through the church’s 90-year history.
